I am Gluten
Free. Not by choice, believe me. But that is the way it is and I am dealing
with it.
I experiment a
lot with different foods to keep things interesting for me.
I hope that the
recipes I post will not only be Gluten Free, but palatable and healthy!
I'm not sure about you, but I tire quickly of seasonal
fruits. It is difficult when you go into the grocery store and the options are
limited. I try to make things interesting when it comes to getting my serves of
fruit during the winter months, when the fruit isn't too exciting.
So today I made some DELISH apple chips, and I
couldn't help but share my recipe! It was incredibly simple and extremely tasty
and even better, it's healthy! I shared the spoils of my cooking with some of
the high school students here and they LOVED them. It has been requested that I
make a larger batch on Sunday. If that doesn't say enough, then I don't know
what will!
So here it is! Knock yourself out!
Spicy Apple Chips
Ingredients
- 2 large apples
- Cinnamon
Method
- First, preheat the oven to 130 degrees Celsius. Line a large tray (you may need two, depending on how large the apples are, and how far apart you place each slice) with baking paper.
- Thinly slice the apple (about 2mm is perfect), slicing from top to bottom.
- Once both apples are cut into thin slices, lay them out on the baking paper, leaving a little room for air flow between each slice.
- Dust each slice with Cinnamon.
- Place the tray in the oven and leave for 1 hour. Remove the tray and flip the chips so they cook evenly.
- Check the chips every 20 minutes after the first hour. If you are using a convection oven, it will take less time for them to go crunchy, so keep an eye on those baby’s. Today I used a convection oven, and it took 1 hour 40 minutes to cook fully. I estimate 2 hours without a convection oven.
You can eat these hot or cold, they are delicious
either way!
Store in an airtight container. Don't worry about an
expiry date; you won't be able to hold back!
